Affinity Groups

Affinity groups at Rosebrook are safe spaces for people of color. They constitute the “diversity” aspect of our core value of “Unity & Diversity” and, more importantly, align with our desire for greater inclusion within and outside our congregation. These spaces are for learning and processing the biblical and theological foundations of our faith through the lenses of our respective racial and ethnic backgrounds. Though it might seem counterintuitive to break up our church community based on race, experience has taught us the value of safe spaces where minorities don’t have to code switch. Our hope is that these groups become spaces for healing and restoration in Christ in order to continue our pursuit of unity as a multiethnic church.

Affinity groups meet on a quarterly basis with spontaneous meetings scattered throughout the year based on need. As of now, we have affinity groups for members of our Black community (led by Nate Lowe) and members of our Asian/Pacific Islander community (led by Rachel Lee of the Center for Antiracist Research at Boston University). We’re currently in process of starting an affinity group for members of our Latinx community and we hope to launch affinity groups for other ethnic minorities as our community grows.

Involvement in affinity groups doesn’t replace involvement in our missional communities. There’s no requirement or pressure to attend an affinity group meeting.

Affinity groups are also open to skeptics and other guests. There’s no requirement to commit to our church after attending an affinity group.

If you would like more information about attending any upcoming scheduled meetings, please contact us at info@rosebrookchurch.com.
